INTERVIEW WITH ARTIST KATARINA RIESING

How boring, her work suggests, to have perfect skin. Katarina Riesing paints with dye on silk — and then embroiders it, by hand, for up to four months — rendering acne, scars, and blemishes the way other artists render flowers. The spots of pigment are gorgeous and gross at once, which is also, of course, what bodies are. THE CULINARY DESIGNER JULIE ROTHHAHN

She starts with an image impulse, an association of ideas, a question about form. Her studio works with brands and companies on experiences, installations, performances, and immersive dinners.
