I loved Von Vonni's second presentation at New York Fashion Week, where he chose the beautiful members-only club Norwood in Chelsea. The Armenian-American designer is known for his "transformer" dress and focused on feminine, elegant silhouettes for this beautiful collection. Von's love of the sea and his passion for New York are the inspiration behind it.

Jewel tones in red rooms

Norwood's velvet sofas and candlelit corners set the mood. Against them, the gowns came in saturated jewel colours: sapphire, emerald, coral and fuchsia satin, cut long and fluid, with deep V-necks, soft draping at the waist and sleeves that fall like water.

Alongside the evening gowns were lighter pieces in printed silk, rose and burgundy florals in wrap shapes and easy, belted dresses: the city side of a collection that also looked to the sea.

The music came from the Misshapes, who DJed the party that night and later shared their fashion week playlist with Ninu Nina.

About Von Vonni

Von Vonni is an American evening wear label founded in New York in 2001 by designer Von Sargsian, an American designer of Armenian descent. He began making his signature multi-way dresses in 1999, two years before the label launched.

The brand is best known for the infinity dress, also called the "transformer": a single dress with long fabric panels that can be wrapped, twisted and tied into many different shapes, from halter to strapless to one-shoulder. It became a staple for evening and occasion dressing because one piece can be worn so many ways.

A year after Norwood, Von Vonni showed its Fall/Winter 2012–13 collection in Moscow, pairing soft, flowing dresses with heavier jackets and blazers. In 2015 the company moved from New York to Los Angeles, where its dresses are now made.
