MANDY COON & SALLY LA POINTE

Sally-Lapointe-2.jpg

Mandy Coon is considered a hard edge designer since her debut in 2009, but we felt a lighter touch with this collection. There was some white, ( one of my favorite looks) and lots of asymmetric hemlines, leather, and sharply cut satin dresses.

Sally La Pointe  was born and raised in Massachusetts, graduated from Rhode Island School of Design and with a BFA in Apparel/Design moved to NY  to launch her collection.  She  is  adored by Lady Gaga and her stylist Formichetti, as she finds inspiration in "futurism and science fiction". SS 12  looks however were inspired by the Renwick Ruins (an abandoned smallpox hospital, on Roosevelt Island, wanting to give off the feel of "haunted romanticism."  My favorite photographer, video director Floria Sigismondi instantly comes to mind. The collection includes many gray geometric pieces ( always  with a strong shoulder) and several neon yellow pieces.
