Create To Aid Those In Need
This past weekend, I was introduced to the incredibly talented photographer and inspiring, on all levels, Marina Vernicos. Her photographs of the sea have been shown in galleries all over the world and as much as I sensed her passion for her photography nothing lit up her eyes more than talking about her responsibility to help those in need.
She is the President of CREAID, a non-profit organization supporting children in need in Greece through creativity and art. This summer she printed her beautiful photos on waterproof beach bag (perfect to protect your phone or wallets on holiday) and can be found in fashionable boutiques from Mykonos to the Hamptons. Proceeds go directly to CREAID and based on our conversation it seems that proceeds will also help Syrian refugees arriving in her native Greece. Congratulations to Marina again on her exceptional work.
ABOUT CREAID - newly founded, non-profit organization with a targeted humanitarian mandate, served through creativity and art. The fundamental principle is “create to aid those in need”. The objective is to actively contribute in solving humanitarian problems in our country by raising awareness through creative and artistic initiatives. CREAID consists of a group of young, dynamic people who aim at the effective relief of weak social groups while promoting creative thinking, imagination, noble competition, and entrepreneurship. The passion to create fuels the need to aid that leads to collective actions of citizens without state interventions.
200 Unique Tote Bags Project
The first event was a Tote Bag auction, the proceeds of which were used to purchase a mobile medical unit for the Greek Chapter of “Médecins du Monde” (www.mdmgreece.gr), a global organization of volunteers that provide healthcare to unprivileged people.
Marina invited 200 people, the majority of which are artists, entrepreneurs and journalists, to design their own unique Tote Bag. The response was overwhelmingly positive and the auction took place on April 1st, 2015 at One Athens (www.oneathens.gr).
Some of the totes we love:
