Three friends. Ninety contributors. One profound act of solidarity with the people of Mumbai — published by Assouline and benefiting the Taj Public Service Welfare Trust.
On November 26, 2008, residents and visitors, leaders and institutions were shocked to the core as they witnessed death and destruction aimed at the heart of India — Mumbai. This book was their response.
Ask any traveler who has been to India, and they'll tell you — it is like no other place in the world. The land and its people jolt every one of your five senses and stay in your heart forever.
Waris Ahluwalia, Tina Bhojwani, and Mortimer Singer — three friends brought together by their love of India — created a veritable scrapbook of love letters to this extraordinary country, perfectly published by Assouline.
The book, along with its launch events and affiliated photography exhibits, directs all profits to the Taj Public Service Welfare Trust in conjunction with Mumbai: We Got Your Back — an organisation founded by the three editors to raise spirits, awareness, and funds by leveraging the creative arts.

"It was a labor of love. Each of our 90 incredible contributors joined the project with great enthusiasm and support."Tina Bhojwani
How did the idea come together?
I was approached by my friend Morty to get involved with him and Waris with the Mumbai WGYB organisation after the 26.11.08 terrorist attacks. We decided to express our solidarity with the people of Mumbai and encourage people to continue to visit India.
Favourite cultural hot spots?
I love Les Ombres in Paris at the Musée du Quai Branly — the museum of anthropology and culture designed by Jean Nouvel. Also, Marino alla Scala and the Triennale Design Museum in Milano.
As a city, Mumbai is brimming with creativity, vibrantly expressed in mediums such as contemporary art, film, fashion and food.
Your greatest inspirations or influences?
My mother. She has taught me about faith, acceptance, optimism — and of course inspired my interest in art and fashion.
Favourite photographers and icons?
I am a fan of Peter Beard's photography. In fashion and film I am inspired by iconic women such as Diana Vreeland and Katharine Hepburn. And Bono is one of my favourite musicians.
