VISUAL ARTIST LANA JOKHADZE

VISUAL ARTIST LANA JOKHADZE

I was born on 12th August, 1994, Tbilisi, Georgia. My childhood was not a fairy tale and I have some memories which I can't remember if they were a dream or if they really happened. So a difficult childhood was followed by a difficult adulthood, and finally all the emotions gathered together has had a great influence on my art. I’m a graphic designer and visual artist, however this hasn’t always been my primary profession. It was the beginning of the summer of 2019, when I realized that I had to change my job and take the first steps into a radically different field. Leaving my job was very difficult, but it was the bravest decision of my life and the right one. Now I am a happy designer, the kind of artist I like, a lot.

Tell us about your greatest inspirations or influences please.

The biggest influence on me is music, when I listen to music, so many different layers open up in my mind. I don't know when I discovered this connection between myself and music. Just a few days ago I was packing old things and I found a letter written to my father, when I was 13 years old, he wrote to me that if you listen to classical music sometimes, you will not show much talent. I didn't remember this letter...

How are the current trends in technology and innovation affecting your work as a creative?

When I look at surrealist paintings from the 14th or 18th century, I realize that it was just genius, and that creating surrealism digitally is a simple process. Obviously I have more capabilities, more technical support. However, I could not say that all this affects my creativity and has any decisive importance.

We’d love to hear about your creative process

It's a rather indefinite process, I completely lose track of time. Maybe what I want will come out in 15 minutes, an hour, or it won't see the light of the sun. There was a case when I returned to the work after a week.

What do you think of the art world and how it works in general?

This is an industry that is constantly changing, these changes are influenced by the technologies and innovations that we talked about above. I think that art is a very broad concept and the perception of something as art is individual.

Anything coming up that we should know about?

No ( 😊)
