Sophia Edstrand: The Swedish Designer Weaving Jaipur’s Magic Into Embroidered Dreams
From Stockholm to Jaipur: A Serendipitous Journey
Born in Stockholm with a restless creative spirit, Sophia Edstrand initially planned to study law—until Paris intervened. A chance meeting with jeweler Marie-Hélène de Taillac redirected her path: “She took one look at me and said, ‘You belong in fashion.’”
A research trip to Jaipur’s bazaars sealed her fate. There, she discovered an exquisite embroidery technique—unlike anything she’d seen—and began experimenting. Her 2009 “Love from Jaipur” exhibition at Le Bon Marché sold out in a week, confirming her calling: to blend classical motifs with vibrant hand-stitched artistry.
Inspirations: Color, Craft, and Timeless Glamour
Design Philosophy: “I play with jewelry’s classical motifs, but embroidery transforms them. The textures, the colors—it’s alchemy.”
Muses: “Women like Slim Aarons’ subjects—effortlessly chic, sun-drenched, enigmatic. Less about trends, more about eternal style.”
The Sophia 203 Woman
“She’s like me: loves dressing up, adores details, and isn’t afraid to mix a vintage caftan with neon embroidery.”

Jaipur’s Spell: Monkeys, Peacocks, and Infinite Possibility
