THIS ARRAY OF COLORS
Stanley Whitney / Yves Klein
If you happen to travel to Menorca this summer, definitely visit Galería Cayón’s exhibition focusing on the exploration of color through the works of Stanley Whitney and Yves Klein.
Whitney has been exploring the possibilities of color for several decades. These spaces of color, laid out in a weave-like pattern, reflect the artist’s continued pursuit of placing color at the core of artistic creation.
Yves Klein ( one of my favourite artists ) , shared the idea of color as an autonomous entity. In his own words: “The line travels through infinity, whereas color is infinity.” His iconic “ blue” installation will be featured.
Stanley Whitney works in New York (NY) and Parma (Italy). His paintings are held in public collections around the world, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (NYC), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC), the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa, ON), and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Pennsylvania).
Notable solo exhibitions include ‘Focus: Stanley Whitney’, at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (Texas) and ‘Dance the Orange’ at the Studio Museum in Harlem (NYC). Whitney work has also been featured in prominent group shows, such as 'Inherent Structure', Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH, USA (2018) and Documenta 14 in Athens, Greece and Kassel, Germany (2017).
