CHANEL 1932 DUBAI
On Wednesday I had the great pleasure to attend Chanel's"1932" presentation in Dubai honoring the actual Bijoux de Diamants collection Coco Chanel designed in 1932. This collection captured the essence of the Great Depression period with pieces that were unlike anything that had ever been seen at the time. No fashion designer had ever created a precious jewellery collection before, but some diamond merchants, worried about the effect of the Depression wanted and needed Chanel's help in making diamonds fashionable again. The collection was displayed on wax mannequins in a mirrored room on the rue Faubourg St Honoré which was an original concept because pieces were traditionally presented in velvet cushions or jewelry boxes.
