Nik Nejad is a Canadian- Iranian artist who's work I have been following closely since last year. I was very excited to attend his solo show 'Versions of Her' which revolves around his vision and definition of femininity at 8th Street Studios in Al Quoz, Dubai last week. In his paintings, Nejad creates a timeless relationship with his subjects. "I see my subjects as more advanced, futuristic beings incorporating the concepts of cybernetics, androids and cyborgs. A hive mind interconnected on a supersonic level" says Nejad. The two video installations, a kaleidoscope of textured images shot, edited and presented go even deeper by taking on fashion and exploring hyper-femininity . ‘I like to dissect and defragment an image of beauty, to find that defining point when something goes from being normal or ugly to being beautiful,’ he says. As envisioned by Nejad, the future is one wherein the human race evolves towards a singular consciousness.
