CHRISTIE'S PREVIEW ELIZABETH TAYLOR
Douglas Kirkland via Christie's
Tonight I attended the amazing preview of Elizabeth Taylor's jewels and fashion that will go up for auction after tomorrow at Christie's. The auction will be nothing less than legendary. These "crown jewels of Hollywod" are spectacular and include the Peregrina pearl, the infamous Burton diamond ring ( estimated at 2. 5 million), and the rubies and diamonds from Mike Todd that she accepted before jumping into a Riviera swimming pool.
I especially loved pieces from her wardrobe that are up for grabs including the caftan collection from the 70's, and the Ferre, Valentino, and Dior's from the " super model 80's". Incredible that back then Hollywood Stars such as Taylor probably didn't have stylists to help create a style like they do today. So much cooler back then, and original. One of my favorite pieces is the second "gypset wedding dress Taylor wore to her marriage to Burton in Botswana.
Then there are the beautiful leather director’s chairs, and private art work collection including a stunning Van Gogh. “A fashion equivalent of Tutankhamun’s tomb!” says Meredith Etherington Smith, the cultural historian who has shaped the catalogs for the auction house.
Gina Fratini Wedding Dress /Taylor wore this at her second wedding to Burton in Botswana October 10,75.
Taylor had almost every single Fendi special edition "baguette"
There is definitely something for everyone in this auction and I can't wait to see how the jewelry is going to make auction history.
