Galerie Tanit "All About Beirut"
ALL ABOUT BEIRUT
December 17, – January 16, 2011
Kunsthalle whiteBOX, Munich
Nobody visits Beirut without feeling the spell the city casts. Visitors are greeted by an immense joie de vivre and great diversity; however, the city never forgets to point in the direction of the many scars left by recent catastrophes. Beirut has often been the scene of wars and conflicts and remains in a state of disquiet; the everyday interactions of its inhabitants are informed by religious and political tensions. At the same time, the city is the throbbing, artistic centre of Lebanon, home to a young and very active artistic scene which at times appears dynamic and versatile, at times controversial and provocative.
“All about Beirut” will show the works of 17 Lebanese artists who all call Beirut their home and inspiration and use it as an important centre of artistic production.
In 2007 Galerie Tanit opened a partner gallery in Beirut, Espace Kettaneh Kunigk (Tanit). The show “All about Beirut” will be held at Kunsthalle whiteBOX -a significant platform for contemporary art which is now firmly established as an important exhibition space in Munich.
