Kimberly Garett started her career in fashion working at Obligato boutique in East Hampton, NY. Upon graduation, she moved to NYC to work at Ralph Lauren doing women's PR. After almost two years she was promoted to celebrity dressing, where she styled and/or secured a range of VIP clients including Angelina Jolie, Penelope Cruz, Charlize Theron, Julianne Moore, Blake Lively, and Megan Fox. She also worked on styling specific characters for films including “Sex and the City 2” as well as TV shows including “Gossip Girl”. Upon relocating to Chicago she decided to venture on her own and work with real women who seek clarity and organization in their closet. She found many women either don’t have the time to shop for themselves or feel intimidated or confused by the thought of getting dressed. So she started Plush, which is a Chicago based personal shopping consulting firm offering private client styling services, closet consultation, personal shopping, special occasion shopping, and packing services. Favorite designers? Depends on the occasion.
- For a smart and sophisticated look, I love Ralph Lauren.
- For a cocktail party, Brian Reyes makes the perfect strapless dress.
- I am loving Tibi's prints for spring,
- I'm obsessed with the lace pieces in Stella McCartney's collection.
- If I need an outfit ASAP I can always find something at Topshop. They have everything you need to complete a look and it wont kill your wallet.
- I love Ikram in Chicago; they carry some of my favorite designers and I can always count on them to have a perfect evening look.
- Calypso is my favorite boutique in the summer...they have those adorable dresses that go from beach to evening with just a change of shoes.
Difference in attitude in fashion between Chicago and NY? From my experience, Chicago is excited about the possibilities within fashion and the growing industry out there. Chicagoans have so many talented designers and fashionistas that just need to be exposed. New York is, and has been, a fashion city. And they know that. New York and Chicago are kind of like Madonna and Lourdes.
I've never understood why people need a personal shopper, can you explain the benefits of this service? Most importantly, it saves the client time and money- which everyone needs more of these days. If you have a job and social life- then add a family into the mix- you really don't have time to spend staying on top of trends and then going out to buy next seasons clothes. Shopping to many women is a huge chore- and often women just want to get it over with. They end up spending tons of money on clothes they'll never wear and feel totally exhausted and defeated after. If you hire Plush, we will come to you when it works for your schedule- ask you a few questions and look through your closet- then go do the shopping for you and bring it back for you to review. Whatever you want, you pay for and keep. Whatever you don't, we return for you. We are professionals nd we don't take commission on purchases so you can trust we are honest 100% of the time. Memorable "styling" experience with a celebrity? Lauren Bacall asked me what went wrong with the girls in my generation because we're all idiots. I'm sure she wasn't referring to me...?
