Last night Prince Peter presented a unique line inspired by the immensely popular 80’s New York City venues and after-hours clubs such as Danceteria, The Pyramid Club, and Palladium. At the time, notable and emerging celebrities such as Madonna, Billy Idol, Duran Duran, artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat all frequented these venues. Prince Peter Collection, deemed “Virgin Spirit” is inspired by the style and music of the musicians and downtown artists of the era. From Madonna’s infamous cropped jacket to the print classified ad in the film Desperately Seeking Susan. The collection is brimming with edgy playfulness but still rooted in the true punk aesthetic of last season’s collection still using some images by legendary photographer Mick Rock. The fashion line which exploded only this past summer has gotten much attention from the likes of rock stars, hip- hop artists, models Chanel Iman and Irina Lazareanu to editor/art director Olivier Zahm of Purple Magazine. The multi-media event at Good Units in the Hudson Hotel blended the rare Madonna images of Richard Corman ( which was a personal highlight for me) with incredible performances by Jessica 6 and Dan Black.
