I am so proud to present the Carlos Campos fashion presentation I collaborated on this past Saturday for his men's and women's fall winter collection. Inspired by the romanticism and sartorial flair of Mexico’s mariachis, designer Carlos Campos melds the ethnic and traditional with a modern sensibility. Traditionally clad in silver-studded charro suits, the mariachi musician is a wanderer, bringing his or her passions through the traveling performance art form. For women, the Fall collection features high-collared coats in leather, suede, coated denim and wool, hand-finished with hints of charro embroidery and studding. Meanwhile, the traditional mariachi blouse is reinterpreted in silk chiffons, poplin and oxford shirting. The men’s collection offers tailored outerwear in alpaca, immaculate suiting in double-faced flannel, as well as Carlos Campos’ signature slim fit trousers in new techno blends of cotton & wool. “I wanted to take that Latin sensuality and update it in a straightforward way for the modern muse. New York-based Carlos Campos grew up in a design and tailoring household in his native Honduras. At an early age, Carlos Campos set out to see the world. That journey ultimately drew him to New York City. The designer first honed his skill, studying fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Since then, Carlos has collaborated on set costumes for renowned plays and launched his eponymous menswear line in 2006 to critical acclaim. In 2009, he was awarded with Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award for menswear design and has since parlayed his industry accomplishments into a partnership with the Kattan Group, one of the world’s top manufacturing companies. In May 2009, Carlos Campos launched his first retail location in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. His designs have been worn by the likes of Justin Timberlake, Ethan Hawke, Enrique Iglesias, Scissor Sisters, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and Ville Vallo.
