The Macaron-My Current Obsession

The macaron -- an almond-based meringue, ganache-filled, tiny-sized delicacy that has little to do with  coconut macaroons  -- and is a my current Parisian obsession. Everyone has their favorite flavor, perfume, and patissiere. They make lovely gifts but dont travel well.

Top Parisian Patissieres:

  • Lenôtre-The Lenôtre name is famous the world over, and its boutiques scattered around Paris offer pastries and other delicacies, including some of the city's best macarons.
  • Gérard Mulot
  • Dalloyau- is a favorite among Parisians for its incredibly light, delicate macarons in a range of flavors from Champagne to raspberry and lemon.
  • Pierre Hermé - The most famous pastry chef in the world, one of his most famous creations is a rose flavored macaron with rose cream, lychees, and fresh raspberries.
  • Ladurée-  Sofia Coppola used the pastels of Ladurée's macarons as a color palate for her film Marie Antoinette.
