We talked to Cody Ross the creative force behind Priestess NYC, a progressive fashion label/atelier in the West Village. It is a brand that is wearable, approachable, and created for urban girls with a fashion-forward point of view. The label is a combination of high quality design and kitschy attitude. Originally from Texas, Cody attended LSE and worked as a financial analyst in Shanghai, Dallas and NYC until he got fed up and decided to pursue his interest in fashion by launching his label 2 season ago. Although fashion has always been his passion, he received technical training at Central St. Martins. Who wears Priestess NYC? An opinionated, knowledgeable and highly individualized girl who is a little irreverent and subtly-outlandish. She obsesses over fit and style and is typically well traveled and familiar with the coolest things in the coolest cities: NYC, Paris, London, Shanghai, etc are her playgrounds . . What is your design philosophy? To feed the demands of individualism in an increasingly homogenized/collectivized world. . .. ‘to make clothes that are provocative, versatile and beautiful enough to excite.’ Where do you find your inspiration? A very broad/disparate range of influences: I look to the streets of NYC, Paris, Shanghai, etc. I find inspiration in the collections of ReiKawkabo, Raf Simmons, Jeremy Scott, Bernard Willhelm, JunyaWatanabe , etc . . Favorite fashion trend? Snakeskin themes that were all over the Spring/Summer runway shows. Python-print shirts (Christopher Kane from London) as well as GretaCavazzoni bags/accessories (www.gretacavazzoni.com) with bold chains . . and that Serpent Biker Crop-Jacket by Gucci in a variety of colors Where can we find your clothes?Besides on the coolest girls around the world, you will find Priestess NY at edgy boutiques such as D-Mop, Podium, Colette, TG-170, Lane Crawford, Barneys, Sucre, etc . . . and, of course the NYC showroom/atelier in the West Village, NYC (West 4th + West 11th) . .. Favorite restaurants in NYC? Ginger Toons (Thai restaurant on Bleeker) and Extra Virgin (on west 4th)Best Neighborhood and why? Meat Packing because it is edgy + raw and I love the renaissance taking place there. The West Village is also cool and comfy (but excessively charming!).Chicest girls in your opinion? Super-model Greta Cavazzoni! Not only is she a splendid model with amazing style and versatility . .. she is ruthlessly smart and has sooo much integrity! . .She's a role model for all! Designer/Photographer Kelly Klein is amazing too!Men fashion icons? Jeremy Scott for his simmering creativity; Designer TONY MELILLO for his pragmatic and cool approach to menswear! . ..Products you cant live without? My Blackberry World-Edition (hahaa!), i-D magazine and stylesight.com Best fashion ad campaign ever? David LaChapelle's 'Objects of Desire' (2000) in which 2 blond models are wearing surrealist bathing suits (neon colors) by Jeremy Scott; I also love those futuristic D&G adds!www.priestessnyc.comphoto by RomerPedron Model Georgianna Robertson
